How to make the best possible analog advertising

You can not only advertise your project online, but also in analog form, for example with advertising posters or an information stand in the canteen. What exactly do you have to consider with analog advertising? Do we even need analog advertising if we are already advertising on Instagram?
In this article you will learn
- how you can best present your project in analog form.
- what options you have for this.
- who you need to ask.
- tips on the right wording
- the most important things about image rights.
What is analog advertising anyway?
The options for advertising your project in analog form are just as good as digital advertising. In contrast to digital advertising, however, you are less reliant on algorithms or people who are already on a website. Analog advertising means putting up posters, distributing flyers or setting up a stand in the canteen where you can advertise to everyone who passes by at lunchtime.
How do we present our project in the best possible analog way?
A good project presentation therefore not only means that your flyers or posters make the information easy to grasp, but that you can also present your project well in conversation. This is particularly important at trade fair stands, where you can speak directly to other people to draw attention to your project. For analog advertising, you can use the same W questions as for digital advertising:
What?
How?
Who are you?
Why?
Where and when?
What options do you have?
When it comes to analog advertising, you have different options:
Posters and flyers
Posters and flyers are still popular and effective advertising media that can be produced and distributed with relatively little effort.
Design
The first step, of course, is to design your media. The Press Office offers TU members a helpful toolbox that will help you - if you want to use the TU Design - to comply with the corporate design.
There are now also numerous online services that you can use to design and order flyers and posters easily and inexpensively.
Printing
You can print and plot in the GITZ, the Modellbauwerkstatt or the PC rooms in the Altgebäude.
Permission
Before you can start posting on campus, you need permission from the building management (GB3). Then you can finally arm yourself with thumbtacks and tape and set off.
Display locations
Your posters should, of course, be displayed where they will be seen by your target group. Many places on campus are generally suitable. You can reach many TU students and employees, especially in the canteens. Contact the AStA for this. You may also want to clarify whether it is possible to post the notice in the AStA office or in the Studihaus on Wendenring. You can also find information on this in the canteen regulations.
There are also notice boards in the corridors of the Haus der Wissenschaft or in the old building. You can also use the advertising pillars or the bulletin boards in the basement.
Flyers can still be placed on the tables in the foyer of the Forum building. Outside the Central Campus, you could advertise in the Sports Center, the International House and the lecture hall building on the North Campus, for example. Remember to consult with the relevant local institutions.
Many designated areas are full of posters and placards. Please don’t think only of yourself when posting your posters and don’t cover other current posters.
Exhibition stands
Would you like to advertise your initiative, projects or events and leave no stone unturned?
A particularly effective way of introducing yourself to a large number of TU members is to run an information stand in the foyer of the canteen.
If you are interested, please contact the Studentenwerk by email. Further information can be found in the overview of event locations.
Large-format advertising in and around the canteens is handled by the company NewCityMedia. Initiatives and students can rent advertising from this company. Prices and information can be found on their website.
Guerilla Marketing
One principle of guerilla marketing is to involve the target group.
So ask yourself a few questions: How can people be involved in our campaign? What is fun? What will be remembered? How does our campaign offer added value for many people?
Let people experience for themselves what you want to tell them.
An extraordinary experience can often be achieved with little effort. For example, create surprises by using unusual locations or placing something in a different context.
You can also give a small “foretaste” of your project. A tasting, a flash mob, a game - you can be creative. Of course, it always goes down well if your event is accompanied by music or culinary delights.
It is also practical to use an existing event to generate greater attention with your campaign.
Of course, you can also advertise your guerilla campaign via social media. The Sandkasten team will be happy to support you here:

Notes on suitable wording
The wording for analog advertising follows the same guidelines as for digital advertising. Here are the most important points in brief:
- You as the project team initiate the project!
- The Sandkasten platform is an engagement platform for projects related to the SDG's, which are carried out by you on a voluntary basis.
- The employees in the team behind the Sandkasten platform are facilitators for project teams
- In connection with the Sandkasten platform, you should use the following keywords if possible: Engagement, community, sustainability
- Words such as campus design, … should be avoided.
The most important things about image rights
You may also want to use images on your flyers or posters to better represent your project.
When using images from the Internet, you should pay attention to the copyright. You can easily find license-free images from many different providers.
However, you may also have your own images that are suitable. You should make sure that as soon as individual people are recognizable on them, you have obtained their consent. If children are recognizable in pictures, you must obtain the consent of their legal guardians.
If you would like to find out more about image rights or image editing, take a look at the manual article “How to create the best possible digital advertising”.
If you have any questions, you can always contact your project coach.
Have fun applying for your projects!
